The province of Granada is located in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, guarded by the Penibetic mountain range, and contained within the autonomous community of Andalusia, the coasts of Granada are bathed by the Mediterranean Sea. The province of Granada, is not known especially for being a coastal municipality, however it keeps some secrets that we will reveal below. Also bathed by the Mediterranean Sea and a few kilometers from Granada we have the Beaches of Cadiz.
The population of the province of Granada is around one million people, of which 250,000 live in the capital, while only 10.5% live in the Costa de Granada, also known as Costa Granadina. Despite being a great tourist destination known mainly for its culture and mountain tourism, favored by the Mulhacen Peak and the Sierra Nevada National Park, where skiing is widespread. Also in southern Spain we have the great option to visit: The Beaches of Malaga and The Beaches of Huelva.
The 3 most beautiful beaches in Granada
In the province of Granada there are 4 towns that shine above the others in terms of coastal tradition, these are: the town of Motril, the town of Salobreña, the town of Almuñécar and the town of La Herradura. In summer the weather in Granada is fantastic, the temperature is around 26ºC on average. In winter, it is somewhat cooler with an average temperature of 18ºC. Unlike the neighboring area of the Costa del Sol, the Costa Granadina, is neither as crowded nor as built up as the Costa del Sol, so finding quiet beaches, or small coves will be a much easier task, or directly if we want to enjoy a similar climate but without large crowds, the Costa de Granada will be our little paradise.
Calahonda Beach
Calahonda Beach is an urban beach, with a dark-colored sand, somewhat thicker than the usual golden-colored sand, and characterized by its crystal blue waters. Although during the hottest months, i.e. during the summer season, the beach has a fairly high occupancy, so its more than 1000 meters long will facilitate the work of finding a place on the beach if we are going to visit during those months.
Cantarriján Beach
The beach of Cantarriján is a beach of small dimensions because its only 380 meters long, coupled with the fact that it is usually a fairly busy beach make that in the busiest times of the year it is not easy to find a place. It is located inside the Natural Park of Maro-Cerro Gordo, approximately 79 km away from the city of Granada.
Beach of La Rijana
La Rijana Beach is a small beach or also called cove is located at a distance of 20 km from the town of Motril. The waters of the Playa de la Rijana are of an almost transparent crystalline color which makes this small cove an almost ideal place to practice both snorkeling and diving, which is why it is common to find people doing these activities on this beach.
