Where is and how to get to Popotla Beach in Rosarito?

This idyllic stretch of beach is located on the north coast of Rosarito, just south of the U.S. border in Baja California, Mexico. Popotla Beach is a short drive south of San Diego on Highway 1 (also known as Scenic Highway). If you are coming from the north, it is about an hour away. The beach itself is along a stretch of highway that runs through Rosarito and Tijuana, so if you’re coming from San Diego, you’ll enter Tijuana for about 10 minutes before continuing south to Rosarito.

Highway 1 is also known as Carretera Escénica, which gives you an idea of what to expect when traveling this road: breathtaking views with little traffic. In fact, many parts of this stretch appear to have been cut out of time: there are no billboards or advertisements to spoil the view; there are only rolling hills ahead and lush vegetation behind.
