I have been to many beaches in my life, but none can compare to the beautiful beach of Tulum. The water is crystal clear and you can see coral, fish, anemones and everything underwater. The sand is white and fine like flour or ground sugar. There are huge waves perfect for surfers. You can get an umbrella or a tent to protect you from the sun, as well as hammocks to relax in while you are on the beach. They sell delicious tacos! My favorite tacos in all of Mexico are sold there!
What to do at Las Palmas Beach in Tulum?
The sand is white and fine like flour or ground sugar. It’s not coarse like the sand at other beaches I’ve been to, but it doesn’t feel like a thick sugar cookie either. It has a texture somewhere in between those two things, which I guess makes sense since it is sugar turned into flour.
The ocean water is clear and warm, but not too warm; it’s just enough to swim in without getting heatstroke or developing severe sunburn on your shoulders (something that can easily happen here). The waves are small enough that they don’t knock anyone over who isn’t paying attention to them; instead, they gently sway everyone back and forth with each wave cycle until, finally, there’s enough momentum for someone to be brave enough to try to ride one in water deeper than their waist.
If you want to learn to surf, look no further than the waves at Palmar Sur. The beach’s waves are perfect for surfing and are known as “the best in all of Mexico.” In case you don’t know what surfing is, it’s basically riding a board across the water on big waves – it looks great!
If you want to learn how to do it, there are places on the beach where you can sign up for lessons with an instructor from a local surf school called Xel-Ha Surf School (in operation since 1989), who will teach you everything he knows about surfing: from paddling into deeper water and catching your first wave (that’s what they call it when you’re finally ready) to your first wipeout (when you fall off the board).
