Albatros Beach is a great place to spend some vacation time. Whether you are looking for peace and quiet or to hang out with friends and enjoy the nightlife, Albatros has something for everyone. The beach is located on Isla Mujeres, which is just off the coast of Cancun (about 20 minutes by ferry). It has many restaurants and bars where you can grab a bite to eat or enjoy some entertainment after swimming in the ocean.
The sand is not white like most beaches; it is more of a yellowish brown color due to iron oxides from the nearby limestone cliffs. But don’t let that put you off, the water here is crystal clear! In Albatros there are also many activities available: parasailing tours, jet ski excursions, diving trips, fishing excursions…
What to do at Albatros Beach in Isla Mujeres?
The beach itself is a great place to enjoy a day of swimming and sunbathing. The water may be calm enough for the little ones, but it’s also good for more adventurous swimmers who like to dive in and explore underwater.
If you’re in the mood for an adrenaline rush, try snorkeling or scuba diving at one of Isla Mujeres’ many dive centers. If you’re not sure where to start, there are some easy dives suitable for beginners just off the beach.
For those who prefer to observe rather than participate, kayak rentals allow you to view the coral reefs and colorful fish without getting wet (although they won’t let you go deep). For those looking to relax without getting wet (and seasick), canoes can be rented in several places in the city.
Finally, for those who want water activities without leaving the mainland, Isla Mujeres has great surfing spots, some windsurfing opportunities at Punta Sur beach (which features double windswept sand dunes), and even some kiteboarding lessons if you want to get your heart rate up without risking the open water.

Where is and how to get to Albatros Beach in Isla Mujeres?
If you are driving, use the toll road to avoid long delays at the border. There are two roads leading to Isla Mujeres: one from Cancun and one from Playa del Carmen. The main road into town is Avenida Ignacio L. Vallarta, also known as Bulevar Benito Juarez, which becomes Avenida Maritima once you reach town.
Albatros Beach is located on the western side of Isla Mujeres, about five kilometers north of town, at kilometer 8 (approximately 1⁄2 mile). The bus station is right in front of Playa Norte; take a cab or walk if you want to get there quickly and cheaply ($3 USD / $25 MXN).

One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to eat. I love trying new foods and discovering what’s in the area. Isla Mujeres has many great restaurants serving everything from Mexican food to Italian cuisine, but there are also some hidden gems that you might not find if you don’t know where to look.
On my visit, I sampled several types of food at Albatros Beach Restaurant. The most memorable meal was the lobster tacos. They were delicious. The restaurant itself has an extensive menu with many options for vegetarians and meat lovers alike (and even fishermen!). It’s located right on Albatros Beach, so it’s a great place to eat before heading into town or to relax the rest of the afternoon after exploring other parts of Mujeres Island.
